We had the honor of presenting one of our recruits with his black helmet shield β€” the symbol of being officially released to serve as a Firefighter. This achievement isn’t handed out easily; it’s earned through commitment, discipline, and countless hours of training.

Becoming a firefighter in takes hard work and dedication. To earn that black shield, recruits must complete:

πŸ”₯ Firefighter I & Firefighter II – Over 300 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction, including fire behavior, search and rescue, ladders, extinguishers, ventilation, SCBA, and live burn evolutions.
πŸ”₯ Hazardous Materials Operations – Training in identifying hazards, using PPE, and safely mitigating hazmat incidents.
πŸ”₯ Mayday & RIT Awareness – Critical skills to call for help and assist firefighters in distress.
πŸ”₯ Medical training – CPR/AED and basic EMS orientation to support medical emergency response.
πŸ”₯ In-station training & drills – Routine skills checks, scenario-based evolutions, and continuous evaluation.
πŸ”₯ Task Book Completion – Hands-on proficiency sign-offs covering essential firefighter skills.
πŸ”₯ Final Release Evaluation – Demonstration of knowledge, accountability, teamwork, and operational readiness.

This process takes months of dedication, late nights, and total commitment to serving the community.

We are incredibly proud of Cameron for pushing through every challenge and demonstrating the heart, grit, and professionalism that define our department.

Please join us in congratulating him on this major milestone! πŸ‘πŸ–€β€οΈ
