Held at the West Virginia State Fire Academy, she had an opportunity to learn more about the fire service from seasoned WVU fire instructors. The program is structured to give each junior firefighter the chance to experience multiple live fire evolutions including vehicle, structural, and aircraft rescue firefighting along with other classroom and practical training sessions. Of course, one of the big benefits is meeting other junior firefighters and learning about each others fire service experiences so far. When asked how the week had gone, Hope remarked, "this was the best week of my life!"
The SVFD would especially like to thank Chief Tyrone Powell and the members of the Mount Hope Fire Department, from Mount Hope, West Virginia, for enabling Hope's participation. They offered her membership in their Fire Department and equipped her so she could attend under their sponsorship. The SVFD is incredibly fortunate to have such a great relationship with a department which values the development of our Junior Firefighters. Thank you MHFD and congratulations Hope!
